I'm sort of biased when it comes to multi-ethnic literature. I'm not sure how to approach it, where to start, how to respond to it. Before reading, I imagined Cisnero's voice more... latino? You know, like that of black people, with their own lingo, tone, intonation, etc. But I didn't feel it, though maybe it was there. And I probably expected more of a story rather than the vignettes the book is divided into. Two and a half stars will suffice.
