The first chapter is a gem. I’m a sucker for shrink stories lately, so I could have read about a kleptomaniac (A) seeing her shrink for pages in a row, but it all finishes too soon, to introduce another character (B) in a new chapter. They are no stranger to each other, and there is hope, music kicks in. Then another chapter starts and it’s about a different character (C) getting introduced to (B), about 20 years before. The book is still good, the stories are catchy and it’s then you realize the novel you’re trying to read is not a novel in itself but rather a collection of stories which revolve around music and a handful of people, at different moments of their lives. Which is still good, that’s why you keep on reading till the end, wishing someone would put these excellent stories on the big screen and it’s by accident, checking some HBO dramas to watch, you realize they’ve bought the rights to turn it into a TV series. Hurray!
